This new Facility is being designed for joint use by several VDOT components. The design and construciton are being administered by Fairfax County's Department of Public Works & Environmental Services on behalf of VDOT.
The project wil go through Virginia's Capital Outlay review and permitting process. It includes developoment of numerous buildings and structures on the west parcel of the public facilities complex between West Ox Road, the Fairfax County Parkway and Interstate 66. The new buildings and structures include a new road chemical (salt) storage dome, equipment repair and storage buildings, spreader storage structures, administration buildings, and other miscellaneous elements. The site circulation and grading elements are the challenging design components, as certain functions must be segregated and others integrated with each other. The site topography imposes the need for imagiative circulation routes to deep slopes to a minimum where winter operations are required. The site development encompasses approximately 20 acres.
