Garrett Part Elementary School Feasibility Study
and Modernization Project
Montgomery County Public Schools

A feasibility study was prepared to develop a master plan and compare alternatives for the modernization of the school. The alternatives included a scheme to renovate the building with partial demolition and new construction, and a scheme to completely replace the existing building. It was decided to design and construct an addition to the existing building.

The 12,860 SF addition, was designed to meet MCPS educational specifications, is a two-story steel-framed structure with brick veneer located at the west side of the existing building. The addition designed as a stand-alone bulding with covered walkway connections to the existing classroom wing and to the instructional Media Center. Each floor consists of three (3) classrooms, one (1) ESOL classroom, student, restrooms, a staff restroom, a building service closet, and mechanical/electrical closets. Stairs at the ends of the addition and an elevator will provide vertical circulations between the two floor levels.
