Programming, planning and design for a new 40,982 SF facility for the consolidation of the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Northern Virginia District operations and maintenance functions. In addition to administrative offices, conference rooms and support spaces for the Northern Virginia District management, the facility houses maintenance bays for light, medium and heavy vehicles and equipment, central parts distribution, welding bay, wash bay, carpentry shop, material distribution systems, locker rooms, managers’ offices for the maintenance wings, break rooms and training areas. The parts department is contracted out and operates independently providing separate service counters for each of the maintenance areas. The facility provides separation between the operations and maintenance functions with dedicated entrances and support facilities, with a shared outdoor courtyard for both uses. Site work for the project includes provision of employee and visitor parking, traffic circulation, equipment and vehicle storage areas, and the improvement of existing on-site SWM/BMP facilities.
