Senior Structural Engineer

Gauthier, Alvarado & Associates, a Northern Virginia Architectural/Engineering firm, is a multi-disciplined engineering firm in Fairfax, Virginia. We provide Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical engineering for a variety of projects that include commercial office buildings, educational facilities, public agencies, and interior tenant build-outs. GAA is seeking a Structural Engineer with experience in developing construction documents for foundation and framing systems for educational, government, and commercial facilities.  LEED certification is desirable.  The responsibilities of the candidate will include: preparation of studies, structural assessments, design, preparation of construction documents, and construction administration services.  Good communication and writing skills are a must.

We are interested in candidates who are self-motivated, possess a great attitude and who will fit in as a vital member of our firm working closely with our in-house architects, mechanical, plumbing and electrical engineers. The person will be involved in a variety of projects ranging throughout Virginia, Washington, DC, and Maryland. Candidates must be well-organized, clear communicators, and proficient in AutoCAD, BIM/Revit, Microsoft Word and Excel. Candidate must have hands-on experience with construction documents, writing specifications, and understanding building codes.

The position to be filled comes with a competitive salary and benefits package inclusive of health insurance, life insurance, short and long-term disability, a 125 cafeteria plan, 401k plan as well as paid holidays, sick leave and vacation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architectural, Civil, or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.  
  • PE required.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in structural design for commercial, educational and public facility projects.
  • Experience with design, detailing and analysis of wood, steel and concrete structures.
  • Construction observation experience.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, gravity and lateral structural systems, and industry design standards.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, REVIT Structure, RAM Structure

Part time Marketing Position

Gauthier, Alvarado & Associates, a Northern Virginia Architectural/Engineering firm, is a multi-disciplined engineering firm in Fairfax, Virginia. We provide Architectural, Interior, Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical engineering for a variety of projects that include commercial office buildings, educational facilities, public agencies, and interior tenant buildouts. GAA is seeking a part time Marketing person with graphic experience. The responsibilities of the candidate will include preparing proposals, presentations, updating the firm website to keep it current and looking into and submitting for awards.  Graphic and writing skills are a must.

We are interested in candidates who are self-motivated, posses a great attitude and who will fit in as a vital member of our firm. Candidates must be well-organized, clear communicators, and proficient in WordPress and Adobe Design Suite.

The position to be filled will be an hourly position with anticipated hours ranging from ten to twenty hours per week. This position can be fully remote or in person in our office located in Fairfax, VA. As a part time hourly employee, this position would include a benefits package inclusive of short- and long-term disability, 125 cafeteria plan, 401k plan as well as paid holidays, sick leave and vacation. The hours worked would mainly be as required to submit proposals and prepare presentations. The website would be updated as needed as well as award submissions.

Qualifications

  • Background in graphic design, marketing.
  • Government form proposal experience is recommended.
  • Experience with WordPress and Adobe Design Suite
